![]() Her son (played by Lucas Hedges) is desperate to grieve in a solemn way, which contrasts Mildred’s form of grief which is through anger. Conversely, Mildred shows no empathy for anyone either. That is the first problem I had with this film. Questionably, nobody in this town seems to be understanding of the mother’s actions. With the look in her eye of the broken cowboy, she’s got nothing to lose. ![]() She doesn’t seem surprised and is not backing down. Mildred, the anti-hero mother (played by Frances McDormand) decides to put pressure on the local police department and pays for three billboards that remind the town of the sadistic details in which her daughter was murdered and criticizes the police chief (played by Woody Harrelson) for incompetence. Let me refrain from the details, but we learn that a teenage girl was kidnaped and atrociously murdered a few months back. If you enjoy movies about nasty, miserable people mistreating other nasty, miserable people, then boy do I have good news for you! Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri lays out a hostile small-town dilemma that gets more and more hopeless until we all are supposed to feel like the endearing, stoic culprit from a Johnny Cash song…
